Layla is wrapped in bandages all around her stomach and back, her legs, her feet and her left hand. These bandages are a special material that allows for wound healing and protection of skin from more blisters and infection.
She wears a special shirts her nana makes with the seams on the outside so they do not rub on her skin.
Layla gets her dressings changed everyday which can take between 1 to 1.5 hours. During this time, her old dressings are removed, new blisters are popped and drained, and dead skin from previously healing blisters is removed. New dressings are applied.
Any sort of friction to Layla's skin can cause it to blister - rubbing her back, her arms, her face. She has to be picked up very carefully - under her butt and on her side. Picking her up by her armpits can cause blisters or tear her skin.
Even though Layla has very fragile skin and is sometimes in pain, she is a very happy little girl who loves to follow her sister around and just have a good time!
